Getting around in Calahonda
Getting to Calahonda by Car
Calahonda is roughly about 39km along the Costa del Sol from Malaga airport and would take on average 30 minutes by car to reach. With Calahonda, it is more economical to hire a car, due to its reasonably remote location. That said it is only a short drive to either Calahonda or Elviria, where you will find plenty of places to shop and visit during your holiday. Numerous rental car agents operate from within the airport and also in many of the cities along the Costa del Sol. The main reason why it is not always advised to rent a car is due to the difficulty to find on-street parking in many towns, especially during the summer months. It can be a better option to get a taxi into the city on the first night and then rent a car by the day if you wish to go sightseeing in the surrounding areas, though the buses on the Costa del Sol are regular and travel to most places you may wish to visit.
Take a Taxi to Calahonda
As previously mentioned it can take, on average, around 30 minutes to get to Calahonda by taxi from Malaga airport, and taxis are available 24 hours a day. Fares can vary depending on time of day & season. The usual, common sense rules apply when taking a taxi abroad: agree the rate in advance, if the driver is being vague ask to see the rate book, every taxi driver should be carrying one, by law. This will enable you to show them exactly where you need to go. Be aware of the minibuses, as they will often try to double charge you for your journey.
